What is the Mark?
Without doubt ‘the Mark’ is one of the most contentious issues facing the church today. There is worldwide expectation that our world leaders are moving towards handing over global power to a coming dictator; a man who the world calls, Anti Christ. The masses believe he will be the only person capable of fixing all the world’s problems.
“He causes all,…. to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads..." The scriptures above are the main texts from the Book of Revelation quoted by end-times preachers regarding the mark, and they quote it in error!
“I am the Lord, that is My name; And My glory I will not give to another, Nor My praise to carved images”. Isaiah 42:8
It is possible that there may be some person who God’s enemy believes can be trained to take over the world, but God has vowed that He will never allow anyone to steal His glory! All the concern of trying to guess who will be the Anti-Christ is a waste of time. God has told us, it’s not going to happen.
The devil benefits when most Christian preachers have mistakenly hyped up these verses to warn that everybody on earth will be forced to take the mark, or be killed. However, it’s the writer’s belief that that is not what this passage of scripture says.
STOP! Read again verse 15: “The second beast was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that the image could speak and cause all who refused to worship the image to be killed.” Rev.13:15
Based on the above scripture, the person responsible for forcing people to accept the mark is not a politician; he’s a religious spirit who controls the spokesman of an idolatrous, world-wide church. Speaking plainly, he is the spirit behind the pope who is named as the False Prophet in Chapter 19:20.
The beast has been putting his mark on his members since not long after the inception of the first Roman Church under Constantine in 315AD. There has been a unique mark used by this religious organisation since its beginning. The mark was not held back to be released for the latter days of the Latter Days. The devil did not wait for the 21st century to start using the mark. His mark is over 1,500 years old, and it’s never been updated! The Roman Church is still using it today, under our very noses!
The devil has the most deceitful sleight-of-hand we will ever come against. In the closing stages of the Millennium, he will surprisingly, seduce people to join his army to fight the Lord Jesus one more time, even after being defeated at Armageddon! So, don’t be surprised at his deception.
Membership to the Catholic Church can only be given when a new member receives the rite of Confirmation. During this blasphemous ceremony, the officiating bishop dips his right thumb in a ‘holy oil’ called chrism. He then marks this oil in the shape of a cross onto the new member’s right hand or forehead.
This is a mockery of God’s instruction to Moses in Deuteronomy 6:4. “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might…You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.”
Every child or adult taking up membership to the Catholic Church has been told by a bishop that the rite of Confirmation is proof they have been accepted as members of the church. And as members, they are assured they now have eternal life!
They are also told another huge deception: receiving the rite of confirmation gives the new member the gifts empowered by the Holy Spirit.
Q: Why is that so blasphemous?
A: Christ died and shed His blood for our salvation! And it is our faith in Christ’s death and resurrection that gives us eternal life! “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16 And it was His death that opened the way for Him to send the Holy Spirit to all believers. Not to all people! Christ said, “Except I go, I cannot send the Comforter.” John 16:7
Receiving the Holy Spirit has nothing to do with having a cross marked in oil placed on our forehead or hand. The Holy Spirit was first poured out on God’s church on the Day of Pentecost, as it is recorded in Acts 2. That oft-quoted passage describes all the disciples speaking in tongues as the sign of receiving God’s Spirit.
This is another important truth twisted by the Catholic Church, and in fairness, by many Christian churches which have become cold, denominational franchises.
13:17 The Roman Catholic Church has a long history of inquisitions throughout the ages against people who spoke against their false doctrines of idol worship.
At the height of its power in Medieval Europe, voicing opposition to the Catholic Church resulted in capital punishment by demonic means; the most horrendous examples being burnt alive at the stake and tortured on the rack. At the least, heretics were excommunicated which meant they were no longer allowed communication with friends and family. Tradespeople and merchants fearfully refused to do business with any person branded with excommunication, which then made it extremely difficult for them to buy and sell. In most instances, seizure of property by the Roman church followed excommunication. Where does the Book of Revelation demonstrate restrictions against buying or selling be placed on God’s timeline? The answer is the early years of the Catholic Church in 315AD or thereabouts.
Important! You Must Read This.
Although God warns the penalty for taking the mark of the beast will be torment with fire in hell, He never wants to pass that judgement on. This writer cringes whenever Christians preach, “If anyone takes the mark they will burn in hell forever,” without adding that forgiveness is available.14
14:11 It is important to carefully note the words of this text: “And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever.” The Bible does not say those who take the mark and refuse to ‘come out of her’ will be tormented forever. But it does say, their smoke ascends forever.
This writer does not believe God condemns any human to an eternal burning in hell. That is the punishment meant for the devil and all his evil spirits.
14 Rev. 18:4 The fire of hell is eternal but there is a very strong case to argue that eternal spirits burn eternally, but the bodies of humans are burnt up in the eternal flames. There are many examples of God pleading with sinners to repent whilst holding back His hand of judgement. “Come now, let’s settle this,” says the LORD. “Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, I will make them as white as wool." Isaiah 1:18
Noah’s ark is a great example. Noah’s Ark is an incredible story of God offering life to a world of sinners about to die as a result of their depraved lifestyles. His righteous servant, Noah, had preached to his sinful neighbours for 100 years as he built the ark. But they mockingly rejected his warnings of a coming, worldwide flood.15
Finally, the ark was completed, and Noah had been instructed to stay inside while people from the four corners of the world witnessed an orderly emigration of animals all heading in the one direction! For the last week before the rain was released, God kept the door open as the long line of animals continued walking up the ramp to the ark. It was an opportunity for every repentant sinner to enter in and live. But none accepted the opportunity and consequently forfeited their lives.
And so it is with the mark of the beast. As a counter to His warnings of eternal separation from Him, God offers forgiveness to all who believe His word and leave the false church.
There are many born-again believers who have left the Catholic Church. And God’s promise to those believers was: “… come out of her my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues.” 18:4
15 Gen. 7:1-4 Unfortunately, the Catholic Church cannot repent of its heathen ways! Why not? Because, from its very origin it has been controlled by Satan and he’s not about letting go. In fact, as we draw nearer to Christ’s return, the devil’s creatures will be more aggressive ‘seeking whom they may devour.’
So many of us have friends and family who are members of the Catholic Church, and understandably it’s not easy speaking this message to them.
